God is...
(written July 1997)
It doesn't matter if God is big
It doesn't matter if God is small
God created the whole universe
From nothing at all
It matters not if you're rich
It matters not if you're poor
You're connected to God when you think of something
That noone else thought of before
God created every invention
Before they were invented by Man
To be used for the good of all people
Not to destroy as much as they can
You can reach out to God in your dreams
In worlds of unlimited imagination
You can reach out to God when you're awake
By following your deepest inspiration
God's many gifts to mankind
Include music and humour and art
God is that entirety of spirit
Of which each of us is a part.

Time in Reverse
(written April 1998)
If time suddenly flowed backwards
Back toward the past
Would we put our underwear on first
Or would we put it on last
Would the cups and glasses that shattered before
Eventually come back together
Would meteorologists be able to correctly
Predict yesterday's weather
Would we be able to change
Things we'd already done
Would the sunlight that has sustained us
Flow back toward the sun
To make all events happen backwards
The laws of science would have to change
We'd be alive long before we were born
When you think about it, isn't it strange
I have another question to ask
Before I get any younger
How could a person already be full
Before they've satisfied their hunger
I'm glad that time only moves forward
The laws of science you just cannot bend
But whichever way it flows, noone ever knows
If it has a beginning or an end
Pearly Gates
(written May 1998)
While standing before the pearly gates
They asked what outstanding things I'd done
I had to think a lot about my past
And come up with more than one
I couldn't just make up stories
They'd know if I was lying
I said "I wasn't much of a success in life
Although I never gave up trying
I said "I learned how to put things back together
After taking them all apart
I've learned about computers and poetry
And science and welding and art
I made my own mathematical formula
For calculating repayments of a loan
I read lots of books and did lots experiments
To learn things that are generally unknown
I've learned how to figure out the meanings
Of words that I've never heard before
I've learned the differences between animals and people
That's not all - I've learned a whole lot more
"What you've learned is most useful on earth,"
Said these angels from heaven above,
"You've learned a lot more than most people have,
But did you ever learn to love?"

For the Voters of America
(written 20-November-2000)
All I want for Christmas is a president
To find out at last who has won
Flip a coin, draw straws, let God decide
Or just hurry up and get the counting done
America needs a new leader soon
To guide us into the new century
To lead America through good times and bad
Through unforeseen fortune and tragedy
Smart Mary
(date of writing forgotten)
Mary possessed an infantile ruminant ovine
Its follicles as frozen water crystals would shine
And every path that Mary followed through
The ruminant ovine was certain to proceed that way too
