THE AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE'S PLEDGE

(compiled by listeners of Perth's 94.5fm, on 24-January-2003)
We are Australian
Under the Southern Cross we stand
By the Beach or in the country
A can of beer in our hands

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
We Aussies are platinum, we will not rust

It doesn't matter where you come from
You live in this land
We are all Australian
And together we will stand

Yes we are Australians, and bloody proud to be
Standing tall with our mates over near the barbie

This is the wattle, the symbol of our land
You can stick it in a bottle, or hold it in your hand

Yes, we have a lot of flies, and mossies are a bitch
But the more cans we have, the less we seem to itch

At cricket and football and swimming we are bloody great
Name your sport, we'll beat you mate

When times are tough, and you need a hand
You can always count on an Australian man

The roo is our emblem, the emu is too
So cook'em together, they taste great in a stew

Heading off to the footy, Aussie Rules we cheer
But don't forget the pies and the esky of beer

We have gold and diamonds galore
with tons of iron ore, and gas offshore

Our culinary offerings are better than most
A four&twenty with sauce, and vegemite on toast

Red light district house with the working lady
Cane toads, tar roads, a dingo took my baby!'

A mambo shirt is a sight to see
But it doesn't compare to damper and tea

Our cars are Fords or Holdens, either one is beaut
It doesn't matter which you drive, as long as it's a ute

So that's the abundance we've got to enjoy
We are all Aussies. Oy! Oy! Oy!

(My contribution, as an immigrant to Australia:)

I became an Australian citizen, on Australia day
I love this country, and am here to stay
