It's been a year! I almost can't believe that time has passed by so quickly. A whole year without Leslie.
It's April 1st again today. Gor gor's good friend Mr.Tong yesterday held the grand opening for gor gor's wax figure.
Gor gor's wax figure wears a dark blue long Chinese dress and black leather shoes. The wax museum represenative says that these clothes and style were all Mr.Tong's idea. And during the making of the figure, gor gor's family have provided a lot of videos and photos of gor gor; gor gor's niece even flew to England to assist the production, in order to have the wax figure as real as possible.
The wax figure of gor gor is placed in a different spot to other artists, e.g. Andy Lau, Kelly Chan, Jackie Chan..etc; his figure is placed along with political figures e.g. Jiang Zemin, Deng Xiaoping. The figure is placed on a stage, and on the two sides places seven photos of his films and concerts, to show his achievements in the show business.
Many many fans have gathered at the wax museum very early yesterday. The museum has got fences ready early in the morning outside the entrance for the thousand of fans to line up. They also extended their opening time, and also had workers available to assist the fans' photo taking with the wax figure. Yesterday apart from Hong Kong fans, there were also fans from mainland China, Japan, Korea and everywhere in the world. All of them flew to Hong Kong intentionally to take a look at the wax figure, and also to stay for a few days for all the memorial events to be held.
April 1st again - 365 day after Leslie leaving us. Many memorial events will be held these few days by fans and association in memory of this irreplaceable star. On April 1st, there is the memorial activity held inside the Mandarin Oriental hotel, held by Lesliecheung Cyberworld. Entrance fee was $180. Inside the hotel a memorial corner was set up. And from the afternoon to evening during three periods, fans would be grouped to join the playing of videos, showing clips of Leslie's and also interviews with his good friends.
On April 2, there will be the "Remember. Leslie Cheung." the charity film exibition gathering; in Kowloon Bay there will be three showings of Leslie's movies for free, audience can go in and donate freely to the Children cancer fund. The three films will be - 1:30pm "Lemon Coke"; 3:10pm "Behind the yellow line" (Yuen Fun); and 4:55pm "Little dragon maiden".
on April 3 there will be the "remembering Leslie's life of the arts" meeting also at Kowloon Bay.
Fans are arriving from all over the world - Taiwan, China, Singapore, Japan, Korea... many have never met before, and many have never even seen Leslie. Yet all now gather to remember this star, whom we will always miss.
The memorial corner's entrance was decorated with cream coloured cloth. Every fan that entered were given a white rose. Inside the memorial corner there was a TV playing some performance and interview clips of Leslie's. On the other side there placed a white bulletin board, with a pile of silver cards on one side, for the fans to write down and post up their words onto the board.
in the centre of the memorial corner placed an unseen photo of gor gor's, provided by Rock Records. Beside the photo there placed many glass vases, for fans to put in the white roses they carried. In the entrance of the hall songs of Leslie's were played continuously. The atmosphere was very moving.
Apart from that, there was also dry ice placed everywhere, giving out smoke which created a very fantasy-like atmosphere in the whole place.
In the second part of the program there was a video screening named "a different sparkle". They played some clips of gor gor's, and also some interviews with good friends like Kwan Kam-Pang, Wong Pak-ming, Lai Siu-Tin, who talked about their feelings towards gor gor. The screening had Chinese, Korean and Japanese subtitles made for the fans.
Candle light gathering
One of the memorial gatherings in the evening were the outdoor candle light memorial in central. It began at 6:20pm, but the candles were being distributed starting from 5:30pm already. Candles were provided by some fans who paid themselves.
6:41pm was the moment Leslie left us. All participated in one minute of silence, and then the 500 fans started to sing 10 of Leslie's famous songs: "wind continues to blow", "me", "chase", "bright star", "this life, this lifetime", "who would echo with me", "going through it together", "the moon represents my heart", "when the wind blows again" and "gor gor". In the centre of the stage there placed a huge poster of Leslie's, and on the side writes "forever remember you Leslie Cheung". When the fans sang their 9th song, the microphones played a sound clip of Leslie from a concert: "Thankyou to you all! Hope you will forever remember me!". Fans could no longer hold back their emotions but broke into tears. Some even shouted back: "I will forever remember you!". The atmosphere was very sad. The gathering ended at 7:30pm.
The third part to the three-part-gathering at the Mandarin Oriental mentioned above, held their candle light gathering at 9pm. The police however started blocking the roads at 6:50pm already. The place originally can only hold 800 people, but last night there were nearly 2000 fans present.
I was struggling whether to come and keep the site updated with the news reports.. I felt both sad and tired, it is the feeling that there will not be any more "NEWs", now that Leslie is gone. Why am I doing this..?
After thinking twice though, I know I shouldn't give up. I'd want to keep this site up for the memory of Leslie..
as the song (Anita's) "time flows like water" (#10 in 'Salute') says; as time passes by, our appearances may change, the situations and environment may change; but some feelings never change.
So, this is for all of you. Who still miss Leslie.

Memorial gathering at Mandarin Oriental
April 1st yesterday, the whole day there had been rain. The rain however did not stop the 800 fans from gathering at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, where Leslie left us a year ago.
The memorial event began at 3pm in the afternoon, held by the Leslie Cheung international fan club, who had booked the whole first floor of the hotel. they charged each fan $180. The program was divided into three parts: first, the program named "remember" held in the memorial corner; second, a video screening and third, a candle light gathering in the evening outside the hotel.
Since there are way too many fans attending the memorial event, the committee had to let the fans in by groups. The first group that entered were mostly fans from Taiwan and mainland China, the second group were Koreans and Japanese, while the last group were Hong Kong fans.
The place had a huge TV screen (13 X 9 ft), and for the first time showed the MTV of the song "Burning fireworks"(yan hua tang) which Mrs. Florence Chan specially made. Afterwards there were representatives of fans speaking in Cantonese, Japanese and Korean. And then all sung six songs of Leslie's together, and at the end they played the MTV of "Gor gor", which was made and edited by fans themselves.
In between they had one minute of silence, after which the sound clip of concert 1989 was played, where Leslie said: "I'm not a greedy person, but if somebody asks you, what singers there were in the 80's, all I wish is that you would mention my name." The atmosphere was all very sad and touching.
When the program ended at 9:30pm or so, all fans were relunctant to leave.
