Memorial film exhibition begins
(From MingPao and Oriental daily, May 12) Gor gor worked in the film industry for 25 years, participated in 56 film productions. The non-profit film exhibition held by the HK film workers association along with the HK governmental department of leisure and culture, began yesterday at the cultural centre theatre. 9 representative works of gor gor's would be shown yesterday and today. All profit would be donated to the children's cancer fund and the child protection fund.
Yesterday morning at 10:30am the first film, "Nomad" was shown. Gor gor saw this as his first film, and was chosen by Mr.Tong.
Yesterday Tong, sister Cheung Luk Ping and husband, the nieces and Florence Chan... etc, gathered at the cultural centre at 10:15 for the film. Tong and Chan went in from the back door to avoid the press on purpose. Until noon after the show ended, the press spotted Tong's group getting onto the car ready to leave. He was wearing a grey T-shirt, looking skinny and still a bit worn out, but relatively energetic. It looks like he has calmed down. He was expressionless when he got on the car, and didn't speak a word. The driver waited til everyone got on and drove away.
The film exhibition received really good responses, the whole theatre was full for the first film "Nomad". Also played on the same day were "A chinese ghost story", "Farewell my concubine", "Rouge" and "Days of being wild". According to the workers there, "Farewell my concubine" seemed to be the most popular out of all, that even the worse seats on the higher levels were all sold out. The Mingpao reporters went in to watch "A chinese ghost story", they described that the audience were all clapping enthusiastically at the beginning and at the end of the film, and were all reluctant to leave.
All audience were given a special memorial publication as souvenier. The silver-coloured book at gor gor's close-up photo on the front, inside it introduced the 9 chosen films and also contained pictures and introductions to the 56 film works that gor gor participated in through these 25 years. The publication even had many of gor gor's good friends write a few lines of their thoughts, as follow:
Joey Wong: From the beginning to the end, you are always the good friend that I trusted the most, forever you're the number one actor in my heart. Congratulations that you have a new beginning of a rebirth.
Briggite Lin: The day when the shooting of "Ashes of time" began, that expression when you gave me the birthday cake.........
Andy Lau: Everything of yours just walk pass like this, one just cannot forget after so long!
Teresa Mo: Jai, your departure leaves the people who love you a kind of pain that cannot be healed.
Tony Leung Ka Fai: Life's value isn't judged by its length, but judged by whether is was splendid. Gor gor's departure can be without regrets.
Anita Mui: Losing Lesile, I've lost my best partner in film and in music, this regret is so deep, but, nothing can be saved now. Only through images now, we can remember his hard work, remember this fully qualified artist.
Cherrie Chung: Inside film, you're delicate and fascinating; outside film, you're gorgeous and energetic. So thankful for all the happy times I shared with you.
Maggie Cheung: In "Days of being wild" there was a shot where he couldn't be seen, but all the time he was behind me trying out the sounds of his footsteps moving away, until he was satisfied. I remember the sounds of Leslie's footsteps.
Gong Li: I cherish the memories of the days we worked together.

at the outdoor scene of "Ashes..", the fear when the back of your neck was bitten by a scorpion.....
when watching with you the last scene, that angel-like smile of yours....
though all are already gone with the wind, it is all so clear.
His departure, is one big loss to the whole film industry.
Forever miss him.
