Memorial film exhibition
The HK film producers association(?) and the HK governmental Leisure and Cultural Services Department are joining up to hold a memorial film exhibition named "風流無價、灼灼其華•張國榮人間光影" (literally translated roughly as: "priceless splendor, burning talent, Cheung Kwok Wing's shining shadow in the world"). It is fixed to be held on May 11 and 12 at the HK cultural centre's big theatre and the Hk city hall theatre; nine of Leslie's representative films are chosen to be shown, including "Nomad", "A Chinese Ghost Story", "Farewell my Concubine", "Rouge", "Days of being wild", "Once a thief", "She's the man, he's the woman", "Ashes of time" and "Happy together".

This activity is non-profit-making. All money made from the ticket sales are to be donated to the children's cancer assocation and the chidren protection fund. The audience apart from having a chance to see gor gor again on the big screen, would also be given a nice "Cheung Kwok Wing memorial special edition" publication.

The details of the film exhibition were announced during the press conference held on Wednesday. The Cheung family, Tong and many guests such as Anita Yuen and Anita Mui attended the press conference.(see below)

Mr.Tong appearing for the 1st time after funeral
MingPao news reports on May 1: "Tong very skinny, appearing in public for the first time after Leslie's funeral".
The article says; ever since gor gor suicided on April 1st, Tong has painfully struggled through managing the funeral with a heavy heart, and had since then hid in the home that he shared with gor gor, not taking a step out. During the period the press had managed to take a photo of him in the house, looking terribly worn out and messy. Yesterday (April 30) Tong finally appeared again. His body looked very skinny, apparently he still hasn't recovered.

After a month of rest, Tong yesterday appeared being accompanied by Cheung Luk-Ping (gor gor's sis), the two nieces, Florence Chan and assistant Kenny, for the press conference of the memorial film exhibition program to be held in mid-May.

With himself all tidied, cleaned and shaved, wearing a neat set of suit, Tong looked so much skinnier, his face still looked very worn out, his eyes very swallon and without energy.

Cheung Luk Ping and Mrs.Chan shedding tears
During the press conference, numerous guests went on stage to talk about their experience of working with gor gor. Tong listened quietly and his eyes did wet from time to time; Cheung Luk Ping and Mrs.Chan on the other hand couldn't help shedding tears. When the program finished, all the guests came in front of the stage for a group photo, Tong already left accompanied by others. Location for ashes not yet decided
Sze Nam-Sang revealed to the press that the Cheung family had been consulted before the decision to set up this program was made. They all agreed that it was the most appropriate to salute to gor gor's movie in this way. Sze also says, "Mr.Tong does feel that everybody is worrying and caring for him, so he is already working hard on taking care of his own body; he has been eating, and his emotions are much more stable now. But he still needs time. Showing the movie "Nomad" was Tong's suggestion, because gor gor felt that that was really his first film. (Regarding the ashes) Where gor gor's ashes will be placed is not yet decided. (Regarding rumours of Tong going to the States) Tong's family has always been in the U.S., so he goes there to visit every year, it is just normal, it's not like he's moving to live there like the rumours say."

Anita Mui at the press conference
Ah Mui attended as a guest. After being upset and worn out for so long, yesterday at the press conference she finally looked relatively energetic. During the program, Ah Mui said that it was one big challenge in life when she heard the news of gor gor's leaving; that in the beginning her heart ached so much that felt suffocated, later on her heart felt numb and senseless; her friends then encouraged her to stand back up again, if not, gor gor's spirit in heaven will be very worried. Ah Mui says that she doesn't want gor gor to worry, and she doesn't want to be gor gor's burden, so she's made up her mind to live on bravely.

Ah Mui says that after walking through the journey with gor gor for more than 20 years, she won't forget every single move, every single smile; being gor gor's good friend, she'll insist in fulfilling gor gor's unfinished dream. Ah Mui decided to work with enthusiasm from now on, and that if she has a chance to do a stage drama/musical in the future, she will have "Cheung Kwok Wing" placed as the name of the producer. Ah Mui also points out that Mr.Tong needs time to heal quietly, and hope the media will let him go and stop bothering him.

Tony Leung appreciated working with gor gor
Tony Leung Chiu Wai also attended the press conference as guest. He had been in the same film with gor gor for three times, but he says that technically in "Days of being wild", he only had one shot at the end so he didn't really work with gor gor; while in "Ashes of time" he also didn't have too big a role and there weren't a lot of scenes together with gor gor. Tony says that they shot the movie at a desert, and the conditions of the place were really bad, but gor gor was a very naturally talented and confident actor that he was still able to get into the film very well. Until "Happy Together", Tony finally had a chance to work face-to-face with gor gor. Tony says, "at that time I was very suspicious and lacked confidence in that homosexual role; it was fortunate that it was gor gor whom I worked with; he was very serious and involved into the film, which helped me a lot. I successfully played the role because of his encouragement.

Anita Yuen hopes the spirit started by gor gor will continue
Anita Yuen was also invited to recall her experiences with gor gor; she couldn't help crying out when she did so. Yuen recalls that when she met gor gor for the first time, the first thing that he asked her was that if she was very good at memorizing the lines, and that she regretted immediately after answering "Yes!", that she ended up with nine "NG" that time.

In 1994 when Yuen first worked with gor gor in "She's the man, he's the woman", she was still a very new actress; gor gor at that time was already a top famous star, but he didn't carry a bit of arrogance. Instead, he shared his experiences sincerely with others, advising new actors how they should act. Yuen hopes that this kind of spirit among the show biz could continue.

Yuen also says that even though the pressure in society is huge right now, everybody should support one another, and value one's family members. In tears, Yuen quoted from the lyrics of "Silence is gold": "let the people tease and accuse all that they want; go on to live in a cool way!"

Xiao Fang Fang dreamed of gor gor
Gor gor used to be very generous with charity donations, that's why the committee in charge of this film exibition program decided to have all profit donated to cancer and children funds. Xiao Fang Fang being the representative of the children protection fund, came on stage to give thanks. She broke down in tears when she told the press how she dreamed of gor gor last week. She said, "a week ago I dreamed of gor gor, he was at the funeral, wearing blue shirt and black pants, looking very handsome. I saw him checking around and looking through the guestbook, he looked very casual and light-hearted, and even laughed very happily. When i wanted to go forward to talk to him, suddenly a lot of reporters rushed forward wanting to take pictures, then I lost track of him.." Fang Fang believes that gor gor is now in another world, feeling much happier.

While Fang Fang broke down in tears on stage, Cheung Luk Ping and Florence Chan below the stage also couldn't hold back their tears. Tong was the only one with a deep frown, no tears. Perhaps his tears were already all shed and his eyes all dried up already. 1
