Adult male house cats usually weigh from 9 to 17 pounds, but some tomcats (males) weigh as much as 28 pounds. Females weigh from 6 to 10 pounds. Kittens weigh about 3 1/2 ounces at birth. They gain almost one pound a month during their first 6 months. House cats are usually from 8 to 10 inches tall.
Care of the Cat A cat should have a warm, dry box or basket to sleep in. Their bed should never be in a draft or in a damp, cold basement. Cats suffer rheumatism quickly if kept in a damp place. Most cats are easy to housebreak. Put a box of dry sand or dirt in a private spot, and keep it clean. A cat will quickly learn to use the box when it cannot go outside. Cats enjoy hooking their claws in chairs or sofas, and then stretching or scratching. A soft, wooden scratching post, covered with a piece of carpet, will keep the cat from scratching the furniture.
Cats are the cleanest animal. They lick themselves at least one time a day. The cat uses their rough tongue to clean its body. Longhair cats should be combed daily to keep them from swallowing loose hair. Large wads of hair in a cat's stomach, can interfere with digestion. It's not necessary to bathe a cat unless it is soiled with something. Then wear gloves to protect your hands. Most cats fight when they are put in water. They may bite or claw the person holding them.
I love animals and I hope to make more pages that will help those who do have pets. I have 2 dogs and no cats, but my brother has 32 cats. Yes, I said 32. He doesn't have the heart to get rid of those which are put out on him. He is afraid they will go hungry, so they keep having litters. He has 5 new litters now.
