The Most Noble Order of the Seraphim (Kungliga Serafimeorden) was instituted on 23rd February 1748 by King Frederik I as a revival of an older Order of the Seraphim dating from the 2nd half of the 16th century. The present statutes of the order date from 22nd March 1952. Swedish Princes are born Knights of the Order of the Seraphim, while others must be Knights Grand Cross of another Swedish Order to become a Knight of the Order of the Seraphim. The number of Swedish Knights of the Order is restricted to 32. The Order may only be conferred on Swedes for the very highest services to Monarch and country. It may be conferred upon foreign Princes and Heads of State, and upon other foreigners for special services. The reigning Monarch is the Master of the Order. The Order has one class. The ribbon is plain, pale blue. The Seraphim Medal is associated with the Order. It may be awarded to people who have carried out specially deserving work in the care of the poor and the sick. The Royal Order of the Northern Star (Kungliga Nordsjarneorden) was instituted on 23rd June 1748 by King Frederick I. Its present statute date from 22nd March 1952. The Order may be awarded to Swedes and to foreigners for civilian services, official and Civil Service activities. scientific services, literary, scholastic and beneficial work, as well as for advantageous innovations. The Order has three classes, the 2nd Class being divided into two grades: Commander Grand Cross, Commander 1st Class, Commander and Knight. The ribbon of the order is plain black. King presents medals to Per and Marie at palace ceremony Pop duo Roxette was among Swedish artists, scientists, entrepreneurs and academics honored with achievement medals on Friday by King Carl XVI Gustaf. Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson received His Majesty the King's Medal of the Eighth Size with Royal Blue Ribbon "for appreciated achievements in Sweden and internationally as the music group Roxette." The king handed out a total of 28 medals for achievements in a range of areas from science to the arts. Recipients included a judge, a gardener at one of the royal palaces and the king's sister, Princess Christina, who was honored for her work as chairwoman of the Swedish Red Cross. (Jan 03) |
Swedish rear-admiral conferred prestigious Singapore medal The Navy Inspector of the Royal Swedish Navy, Rear-Admiral Jorgen Ericsson, was on Tuesday conferred Singapore's prestigious Meritorious Service Medal (Military) by Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean. Prof. Byun Gets Sweden’s Prestigious Medal Amb. Harald Sandberg of Sweden conferred The Royal Order of the Northern Star to Prof. Byun Gwang-Soo of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He was honored for his contribution to the development of Swedish culture and language. Prof. Byun was the first Korean to receive the medal. The Royal Order of the Northern Star (Kungliga Nordsjarneorden) was instituted on June 23, 1748 by King Frederick I. Volvo President Receives Legion of Honour The title of Knight of the French Légion d'honneur (Legion of Honour) has been conferred on Volvo President Leif Johansson by the special decree of French President, Jacques Chirac. Eriksson honored at medal ceremony England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was honored for his contributions to soccer by Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf. Eriksson, a Swede who became England's first foreign coach in January 2001, received the King's Medal of the Twelfth Size with Royal Blue Ribbon for what the Royal Court called "his valuable contribution, national and international, to the sport of soccer. Swedish king honours Chiepe The first Motswana woman to achieve the highest academic performance and the first woman to serve in Botswanas cabinet, Dr Gaositwe Chiepe, was showered with accolades and declared a rare breed Botswana has ever produced. She has been honoured by the Swedish king as the Commander of Royal Order of Polar Star. Dr Chiepe is the first Motswana woman to receive such a high Swedish award. This was revealed on Thursday last week at the Swedish Embassy in Gaborone by former Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, Lena Hjelm-Wallem, who has been associated with Dr Chiepe during her formative years as a student in London, and as a cabinet minister before she retired from active politics. gov.bw 27 Feb 06
