• Chief judge tops honours list - Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong heads 373 recipients in the honours and awards list in conjunction with the 81st birthday of Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abang Mohamad Salahuddin. The Head of State conferred titles on 62 people at a special investiture ceremony. Two others received the Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS), which carries the title “Datuk Seri”. They were Shell Oil Products-East president Datuk Lim Haw Kuang and Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd’s (CMSB) executive director Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, who is also a son of Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. Six people were conferred Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK), which carries the title “Datuk''.  The recipients were state Assistant Minister for Planning and Resource Management Alfred Yap Chin Loi, Rural Development Ministry’s parliamentary secretary Datin Paduka Rohani Abdul Karim , Sibu MP Robert Lau Hoi Chiew, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) vice-chancellor Prof Dr Yusuf Hadi, businessman Ling Chiong Ho and “orchid king”' Au Yong Nang Yip. There were five recipients of Darjah Jasa Baki Sarawak (DJBS), which carries the title “Datu.” They were Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Abang Helmi Tan Sri Ikhwan, Land and Survey Department state director Mohammet Baijuri Kipli, Forest Department director Cheong Ek Choon, Permodalan ASSAR Sdn Bhd’s director Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman and Majlis Adat Istiadat (Ceremonial Council) chief Nillie Tangai. Three people were awarded the Johan Bintang Sarawak (JBS) – Sharkawi Alis, Ustaz Nahrawi Abdul Rahman and Sim Hock Guan. Four recipients of the Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (PBS) were Ibrahim Mat, Annuar Mohamad Nor, Adi Badiozaman Tuah alias Badio Zaman Tuah and Awie Suboh. The former Chinese consul-general here, Wu Deguang, was given the Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (Honorary) award. Sibu Resident Bujang Mohidin Jol was one of the three recipients of the Johan Bintang Kenyalang (JBK). The others were John Tan Chung Lok and Mohammed Sepuan Anu. The state’s honours and awards list also included 49 recipients for Ahli Bintang Sarawak (ABS), 104 for Bentara Bintang Sarawak (BBS), 30 for Pegawai Bintang IKenyalang (PBK) and 12 for Ahli Bintang Kenayalang (ABK). The other recipients received civil service medals. thestar.com.my 15 Sep 02

• Taib heads Sarawak Governor’s honours list Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud heads 421 recipients of state honours and awards in conjunction with Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abang Muhamad Salahuddin’s 82th birthday. Taib is the second recipient so far of the Satria Bintang Sarawak (SBS) that carries the title Pehin Sri. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the first recipient of SBS. Jeddah-based Dallah Al-Baraka group president Saleh Abdullah Kamel is the only recipient of Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (Honorary), which carries the title Datuk Seri. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Norian Mai is the sole recipient of Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak, which carries the title of Datuk. Dallah Al-Baraka group senior vice-president Mahmoud Jamil Hassoubah receives the Panglima Gemnilang Bintang Kenyalang (Honorary), which carries the title Datuk.  State Assistant Minister for Tourism Peter Nyarok Entrie and Jepak assemblyman and Sarawak Economic Development Corp chairman Talib Zulpilip both receive the PGBK, which carries the title of Datuk. The sole recipient of Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak, which carries the title Datu, is state education director Mohammed Sabil. Taiyo Uden Co Ltd's Katsumasa Omae receives the Pingat Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (Honorary) award, which carries the title Dato.
