The Order of the Black Eagle (depicted is the Insignia of the Grand Cross) was Prussia's highest Order and came in one class only. Any recipient of the Order automatically received hereditary nobility. The order was founded on 17th January 1701 by Frederick I of Prussia. The Order was rarely bestowed, except for exceptional merit, on persons other than members of ruling or princely Houses. The ribbon is watered orange silk. Red Eagle Order
Order of the Red Eagle - Depicted here is the 4th Class of the Red Eagle Order, 2nd Type. This Order was originally founded in 1705 by George William as the "Order of Sincerity". After undergoing considerable re-organisation in 1734, the Order was re-named "The Brandenburg Red Eagle" and membership was restricted to 30 knights who could show noble descent through eight generations by both parents. The Order was constituted in its final form in 1791 by Frederick William II and the insignia altered. The motto of the Order was "Sincere et Constanter" (Sincere and with Constancy).
