Federal Honours and Awards

The Federal Orders, Decorations and Medals were first instituted in 1958 and the first Awards were made on August 31, 1958 - the first anniversary of Independence Day.

Awards are normally bestowed on the official birthday of His Majesty the Yang di - Pertuan Agong. Investures are also held on other days when Honorary... Awards (of the highest order) are conferred on foreign citizens.

The Awards are made in the name of His Majesty the Yang di - Pertuan Agong. As far as possible, the Investitures are carried out by His Majesty in person. In some cases, especially for the Honorary Awards, Investitures are carried out by some distinguished persons on behalf of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.


The order of precedence of wearing the Federation Orders, Decorations and Medals is issued from time to time by the Prime Minister's Department in the form of a General Circular Memorandum. Orders, Decorations and Medals have been classified into the following main groups:

Darjah Yang Maha Utama Kerabat Diraja Malaysia - D.K.M.

Royal and Family Orders

This Order has only one Grade, Membership is restricted to 10, one each to His Highness who has been installed in office as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. The insignia consist of the Collar, the Star, the Badge and the Riband. Its motto is "Allah Jua Yang Berkuasa".

The Most Exalted Order of the Crown

There is only one Grade of this Order. Membership is limited to 30 persons, 15 of whom may be Foreign Princes, Heads of States or very distinguished persons. The insignia consist of the Collar, the star, the Badge and the ...
