• Lithuania - I recently received a very nice e-mail from Vilius Kavaliauskas who is the author of  "Orders and Decorations: Estonia - Latvia - Lithuania 1918-1940". The book was recently published in the Czech Republic and is written in English. It contains 160 pages, including 27 colour plates, and has all the latest facts on number of awards made. Price is 20 USD plus 3 USD for mailing and handling. If requested, Vilius will autograph the book. • Medal of the Order of Gediminas - Pictured is the Bronze gilt 1st Class Medal of the Order of Gediminas, the Grand Duke of Lithuania. The medal can be awarded in three classes: Bronze gilt, bronze silvered and bronze. This is the version that has been awarded since 1991. Ref: Bronius Juozaitis

• Lithuania Troops Awarded Defense System Medals for Service in Iraq, Thanked by US Ambassador - Fifty-four troops of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanized Infantry Battalion's detachment LITCON 2 (Lithuanian contingent) who have returned from an international mission in Iraq were awarded Defense System Medals For International Missions in Rukla.  During the ceremony, the U.S. Ambassador Stephen Mull thanked Lithuania for the assistance to the coalition troops."Lithuania's assistance to the U.S.-led coalitions in Afghanistan and Iraq is the latest example of Lithuania's contribution to the strengthening of security and stability in the world, eliminating the threat of terrorism," said Mull. "Your American comrades and troops of other states appreciate your great performance in Iraq. The United States is exceptionally lucky to have such brave and committed new allies as you, Lithuanian troops," said Mull. Commander of Lithuanian peacekeepers, Lieutenant Marius Steponavicius, was been awarded by the state for saving lives of troops and civilians during a shootout in Iraq. • 55 Lithuanians get medals for saving Jews in WWII President Valdas Adamkus honored 55 Lithuanians for their help in protecting Jews during World War II, awarding them Life Saving Crosses. • Lithuanian military volunteers to be presented with medals after performing mission in Kosovo Troops of platoon KFOR-11, who have been contributed to peace operation in Serbia in Montenegro, Kosovo province, will be awarded the National Defence System’s level medal “For International Operations”. During the ceremony troops of platoon KFOR –10, who completed mission in Kosovo last year, will also be presented with NATO medals “For Peacekeeping Operations”.  blackarthem.com 15 Apr 05
