Aliu confers Grand Medal Award on outgoing Chinese Ambassador Vice President Aliu Mahama conferred the State Honour of the Grand Medal, Honorary Division, on Mr Lu Yongshou, outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, for his significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Ghana. The citation commended Mr Lu's instrumentality in getting Chinese loans and investments to support, particularly, the in development of infrastructure and in the transportation, telecommunications and health sectors of the economy. Ghana honours Director-General of UNESCO Ghana has honoured Mr Koichiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO with a Grand Medal (Honorary Division) for his significant role in instituting and sustaining the decentralization process of UNESCO with the establishment of the Accra UNESCO Cluster Office. CDS awarded Service Medal by the United States Lieutenant General Seth Obeng (left), the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal by the European Command of the United States Armed Forces for his outstanding leadership and assistance in the successful ECOWAS response to the recent Liberian crisis. A citation signed by the US Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld accompanied the award. It read: "The President of the United States of America authorized by Executive Orders, 16 January 1969 has awarded the Meritorious Service Medal to Lieutenant General Seth K. Obeng, Ghanaian Army for exceptional meritorious achievement, while serving as the Chief of Defence Staff in Ghana. " Lieutenant General Obeng's leadership, exceptional competence, professionalism and dedication to duty helped ensure peace and stability in Monrovia, which directly stemmed a humanitarian crisis and save human lives. Ghana honours outgoing British High Commissioner Ghana has honoured Dr Roderick Allen Pullen, outgoing British High Commissioner with the State Honour of Grand Medal (Honorary) Division. Britain honours Addo-Fening for voluntarism The British Government has conferred the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on Mrs Adelaide Addo-Fening, former Country Director, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), for her invaluable contributions to the volunteer service. Ghana honors Namibian President Nujoma Western African country Ghana has honored Namibia's veteran President Sam Nujoma with the highest national award of the Companion of the Order of the Star of Ghana. Ghana honours out-going Indian High Commissioner Ghana has honoured Mr Kaikhisrou K. Framji, outgoing Indian High Commissioner in Ghana, with the State Honour of the Grand Medal (Honorary Division). Mr Framji assumed office in June 2002 with concurrent accreditation in four other African countries - Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger and Central African Republic. President Kufuor commended Mr Framji for the improved ties between the two countries during his tour of duty. He mentioned the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT that had not only benefited Ghana but other countries in West Africa, the TEAM-9 Initiative for which the Indian Government had allocated 500 million dollars to eight African countries including Ghana. ghanaweb.com 28 Jun 05

'Ghana Police Promises Indelible Service,' Decorated With UN Medals The Ghanaian Contingent of the international Civilian Police (CIVPOL) has promised to set an indelible mark worthy of emulation in the history of the United Nations Mission in Liberia. The Chief Superintendent of the contingent, Justice Asante, said at a ceremony intended to award Ghanaian police UN service medals, will bring hope "where there is frustration, comfort where there are pains and anguish, protection where there is insecurity, reconciliation and love where there is hatred and the desire for revenge". He recounted how Ghana has served peacekeeping missions around the world including Liberia with excellence, noting that Ghana's services in Namibia, Cambodia, Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, East Timor and Haiti have gone down well in the world community. Ghanaian Contingent Gets UN Medals Over 130 officers of GHABATT 3 of the Ghanaian Contingent serving in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) were awarded United Nations Medals for their contribution toward the restoration of peace and stability to Liberia. Lebanese Govt honours Ghanaian Military Officer The Lebanese Government presented the Commander Grade Award of the Lebanese National Cedar Decoration to Brigadier General David C. K. Kattah, a retired Army Officer and former Deputy Force Commander (DFC) of UNIFIL. The award, which was in recognition of the recipient's distinguished performance, close relations and co-operation with the Lebanese Authorities and Army during his two year service with UNIFIL (United Nations force in Lebanon) between February 19, 2003 and February 26, 2005, comprised a medal, citation and a certificate. Ghana - National Medals Awards Day President Kufuor honours distinguished and deserving A press release from the Cabinet Secretary’s office at the Osu Castle said this falls in line with the government’s programme to reward creativity, innovation, excellence and hard work among Ghanaians. The date for the maiden edition of the programme and presentation of the medals, the release said, would be announced during the Republic Day Celebrations, and would be observed as an annual event.
