Order of Generalisimo - Established on 13 June, 1938 and recindeed on 6 December, 1961. Created by Rafael Trujillo, who also established "The Order of Trujillo" and "The Order of the Benefactor of the Nation". It is believed that the order had six or seven classes. Order of Christopher Columbus (Orden de Don Cristobal Colon) Created in 1938 as an award to those individuals who enhance the memory of Christopher Columbus through humanitarian, scientific and artistic merit. Comes in seven classes: Collar, Grand Cross with gold star, Grand Cross with silver star, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight. Can be awarded to foreigners. Order of Juan Pablo Duarte - (Dominican Republic) Established in 1931 as an award for outstanding services, civil or military. It is named in honour of Juan Pablo Duarte, the great hero of the Dominican War of Independence against Haiti. The order comes in seven classes and can be awarded to foreigners. The Government awards the Medal of Merit to 18 women President Leonel Fernandez awarded the Medal of Merit to 18 women, whose contributions have contributed to Dominican society’s development in diverse areas. Among the women decorated is ex- first lady Reneé Klang de Guzmán, wife of the decease president Antonio Guzmán. Decree 85-06 was issued to mark the 20th awards ceremony of the Medal of Merit, a distinction created by the Executive Branch on May 29, 1985. dominicantoday.com 9 Mar 06
