Order of Congolese Merit (Ordre du Mérite Congolais) - Established February 25, 1959. It is awarded in three classes: Commander, officer and Knight. It was later amended to add a Grand Officer and a Grand Cross class. It is awarded to foreign heads of state, ambassadors accredited to Brazziville, attachés and distinguished persons, who render service to the French Congo. This is the French Congo’s highest award. The 51mm knight’s badge is in the form of an eight-rayed red enamel star with sixteen points, and the reverse is blank. The 37mm ribbon is composed of three approximately equal stripes of red, black and red. (Ref: Ed Emering) |
