Burma - Order of the Star of the Revolution (Obsolete) - Instituted November 3, 1953 as an award of national esteem and gratitude to all those who had actively participated in the final phase of the struggle for national independence, either in military service or in the political sphere. The order consists of three degrees based on the period in which the recipient had served the national cause. The three periods are those from January 6, 1942 to July 26, 1942: from July 27, 1942 to March 26, 1945: and from March 27, 1945 to August 15, 1945. According to these three periods the three degrees constitute the following : (1) First Degree - for all three periods; (2) Second Degree - for any two periods; (3) Third Degree - for any single period. This award is distinctive in that the star may be worn on all ceremonial occasions by the direct heirs of the recipient through future generations. This order has not been awarded since March 1962. The ribbon has a narrow stripe of gold, wide blue stripe, narrow green stripe, wide blue stripe, narrow red stripe and is the same for all degrees. Kachin's Anti-Government Forces Naw Seng: Born in 1922 in Man Peng Loi village, Lashio township, Shan State. Joined British Burma Frontier Force, Lashio Battalion. Led resistance against the Japanese in Kachin Hills during World War II; Jamedar in British-organized Northern Kachin Levies. Twice awarded the Burma Gallantry Medal by the British for his role in the anti-Japanese resistance. Captain in the 1st Kachin Rifles in 1946 and fought against the Communist Party of Burma in Irrawaddy delta region in 1948. Worked with Karen rebel in February 1949. Led the upper Burma campaign against the Rangoon government and set up the Pawngyawng National Defense Force (the first Kachin rebel army in Burma) in November 1949. Retreated to into China form Mong Ko in northern eastern Shan State in April 1950. In exile along with a few hundred followers in China's Guizhou province until 1968. Burma launched during 1964-67 anti-China campaign, as vice military commander (under Than Shwe) of the first CPB unit he entered Burma on 1 January 1968. Became military commander of northern eastern command in September 1969. Died under mysterious circumstances in the Wa Hill on 9 March 1972. peacehall.com 12 Mar 05 |
