His Majesty awards medals of honour for outstanding service His Majesty the King awarded medals of honour to 64 officers and men of Bhutan’s security forces, the volunteer militia force, officials of Bhutan Telecom and the Bhutan Telecom Authority, and the emergency medical team of the health ministry for their outstanding services in December, 2003, when the country was left with no option but to resort to military action to protect its security and sovereignty. Four officers of the RBG, one RBA, and the militia force were awarded the Druk Yugyel, the highest medal of honour in Bhutan. Four RBG officers, two RBA officers and one RBP officer were awarded the Drakpoi Wangyel. Nine RBG officers and men, two RBA officers, two telecom officials, the emergency medical team, and the families of 11 soldiers who were killed in action were awarded the Drakpoi Thugsey. Chhoetse Penlop awards medals of honour His Royal Highness the Chhoetse Penlop, Jigmi Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, awarded medals of honour to 80 officers and men of the security forces for their outstanding services in December, 2003, when the country was left with no option but to resort to military action to protect its security and sovereignty. The recipients were recognised for their ability to serve with dedication, loyalty, and commitment and for being ready to risk their lives for their country.
