Exam Essay

43-45) Give three things you have really learned in this class. State significant learning from content, study, skills learned. These should be important. Stat the idea and show how it has been important and real to you. (Add this to your website.)

1. One thing that I really learned from this class would be my computer skills. I am so happy that we so frequently used the computers and websites in this class. My typing speed has improved greatly and my html editing skills have sky rocketed since I started taking this class. Not only was it a very efficient way to manage my work, but it was a fabulous way to improve computer skills. I am glad that we used the html style of editing our papers and work because now I plan to continue the pages that I have started. If I didn't take this class, I would have never been available to learning all of the great ways to build a website. Another way my computer skills improved was through file management. I had to find ways to convert file types, upload them to geocities, and manage them in folders. This will definitely pay off this upcoming year when I will have to write multiple papers and manage more work efficiently. Overall, I was very pleased with how well the computers worked out with our class. If I had the option of primarily storing all my work on websites I would certainly choose that route. The computers are great teaching tools if they can be used effectively.

2. A second thing I learned from this course was how to read and interpret the scriptures better. Before this course, the Bible was just another book on the shelf. I didn't know how to use it, much less effectively. Reading the words can only go so far. I felt that this course was very beneficial to my interpretations of the New Testament. The three levels of interpreting scriptures has really made a breakthrough to me in the past couple of weeks. Every Sunday I try to take the Gospels and do a three level interpretation of them. I have been pretty successful in the past few times I've tried it. I know there is room for improvement, but the incentive is there. I now am much better off with the most sacred text in the world. Mass used to be a boring ceremony that I would understand, but I wouldn't take out a whole lot from it. Another great tool that helped me learn about the scriptures was Father Joe Tetlow's three manners of praying with scripture. As of today I can do a pretty good job on understanding and applying the scriptures to my life.

3. A third thing I learned from this course were some new study skills. Coming out of school with one year of SLUH under my belt made me think I knew a lot about study methods. I did learn a lot during my freshman year, but no one taught me the read, mark, and study method. This truly has been the most beneficial style of studying and reading that I have ever come across. My grades are higher than they've ever been right now. That might be due to the fact that I only have one course right now, but some of it definitely has to do with my new style of taking in information. The Read, Mark, Study method has improved my ability to take in new information at rapid rates and has tremendously improved my test scores. It is a great time saver and has given me a new option for studying this coming sophmore year. 1
