The Gordon Name
There's
many a good Scottish name,
I'm bound by a Bond of Manrent,
And all
are worthy of respect;
My loyalty shall never swerve;
Some
indeed, are very well known,
Bydand, by damn, I'm a Gordon
And have
even risen to fame.
And The Gordon I'll always serve.
I carry
a very respectable name,
You got it from your Father.
One with
honour and pride;
It was all he had to give.
It started
with my ancestors,
So it's yours to use and cherish
And dwells
now comfortably inside.
For as long as you may live.
It's the
name of a Highland Clan,
If you lose the watch he gave you
Known both
far and wide;
It can always be replaced, but a
A name
of fame throughout the world,
Black mark on your name, son,
And always
known with pride.
Can never be erased.
Aye, 'tis
a blessing indeed,
It was clean the day you took it
To be born
of Scottish blood;
And a worthy name to bear.
And yet
a pride greater still,
When he took it from his father,
To simply
say: "I'm a Gordon."
There was no dishonor there.
Be sure you guard it wisely
After all is said and done
You will be glad the name is spotless
When you give it to your son.

"Tartan Day" In the U.S.A.
If you live in the U.S. and have Scottish ancestry, make sure you circle April 6 on your calendar. That is now the official U.S. "Tartan Day." The recent decision by the U.S. Congress was made in recognition of the contribution that Scotland has made towards the development of the United States.
The resolution was put forward by Trent Lott, the Senate
majority leader, and was passed
unanimously. Mr Lott's mother is 57-year- old Iona
Watson, and his grandmother was a Buchanan from the shores of Loch Lomond.
Speaker of the Senate Newt Gingrich also backed the resolution. Mr. Gingrich's
original surname before adoption was McPherson.April 6 is also the anniversary
of the 1320 Declaration
of Arbroath signed by 38 Scottish nobles at Arbroath
Abbey. Robert Brucesent
Adam de Gordon and others to deliver it to the Pope in Rome.
