Jesus: Model of Faith Journal

1.         I believe, in this section of Faith, we learned a lot more about humans, what they need, and what they desire. We discussed natural inclinations, and things that apply to the human race as a whole. Throughout the section, we built up to the answer of all these needs until the end when we found out: it is Jesus. Jesus is fully god and fully human, thus giving us a direct connection to God. If we ever needed proof that God existed, it would be through the man Jesus Christ. I think it is fitting for a Faith course to end with the best reason to believe in God. Jesus is our best reason.

2.         A.        The first main idea I want to remember from this section is one of the arguments we did our web assignments on. My argument, the Anthropic Principle was especially persuasive to me. The Anthropic Principle explains that the world, and universe, and environment are so well suited for human life that it is nearly impossible for it to be a coincidence. It states that since the odds are so against a coincidence, there must have been some sort of creator. I agree with this because I do not like to think of my life as a coincidence.

            B.        The second idea I want to remember from this section is Fr. Kavanaugh's explanation of natural law. He writes that this morality theory, which states that human naturally want to do good, is not limited to people who are religious. It applies to all people. This idea is quite comforting when I think that there is some good in everyone.

            C.        The final idea that sticks out to me is Thomas Aquinas and his natural inclinations. When I first heard of these, I thought is was just another thing I had to learn, but after consideration, I was astounded by how they all apply to me. As I thought about it some more, I realized how these apply to everyone else. St. Thomas was definitely onto something when he came up with these.

3.         I know I have already used this picture on my home site, but I feel this is the best portrayal of Jesus. Salvador Dali really captures the suffering that Jesus had to go through to save us from sin.

4.         This may seem a bit odd, but I see Jesus as a talent scout, that goes out and tries to recruit people to go to his college(God). Unlike most of these scouts, Jesus can back up what he says. He never makes false promises, or over-glorifies God (which might be impossible). Jesus is sent to Earth as a man and tries to tell everyone that all will receive eternal life in His father. This human quality of Jesus gives him a certain like-ability, one that helps us form stronger connections with and grow closer to God Jesus wants us to be with God so much that he is willing to suffer and sacrifice himself on the cross for us to receive eternal salvation.
