Hi All -

As most of you know I have been appointed to a Federal government committee on xenotransplantation. My job is that of Patient Advocate. As part of this work I am researching non - USA health care systems, beginning with Canada. I have a few questions to help me get started. Any responses are most appreciated!

  1. Is everyone covered by the Canadian government. In other words, is coverage "free?"
  2. Do you have a choice of physicians or must you go to a particular doctor.
  3. How rapidly can you be seen by your doctor?
  4. How available are specialists? For example; a neurologist vs. a general practitioner.
  5. Is your acute (emergency) care easily accessed?
  6. Is your chronic (non-emergency) care reliably available?
  7. Are drugs (such as Sinemet) and devices (like a DBS) covered?
  8. Overall, how would you rate Canada's health care system?
  9. Feel free to write any additional comments.

Thanks -

Jim Finn
