Nehemiah started as a simple Jewish servant for the Persian king in exile and went on to rebuilding the entire city of Jerusalem, while preaching the word of God. While Nehemiah was serving the Persian king, Artaxerxes, in his twenty years into his rule (around 445 B.C.) when he first received news that the holy city of Jerusalem was still in shambles. Distressed by the news Nehemiah convinced his emperor to let him go and rebuild the city, that meant so much to him. Nehemiah did was a man on a mission, as soon as he got there he began to form plans on how he was going to tackle this immense project. To make matters worse Nehemiah was taking a lot of heat from foreign neighbors who had occupied the land while the jews were in exile. Despite these set backs Nehemiah's work moved rapidly, he was done with his repairs in only two short years.

Over the next several years Nehemiah set many monumental laws, guidelines, and traditions for the people of Jerusalem to worship the Lord. In 433 B.C. Nehemiah was finished with his reform and construction, he was called back to serve under the Persian king that willing allowed him to come help the people of God, his people. As time went by Nehemiah was called to return to Jerusalem one last time. When he arrived in Jerusalem he worked on stopping the injustices that were being committed in his absence. While he was gone the Tobias and the Ammonites had been abusing the temple in the manner of thedepository for the sacred offerings. Nehemiah continued to rid the city of Jerusalem in his final task and made monumental accomplishments in the process.
