Panathinaikos FC have named Czech Zdenek Scasny as their new coach. The appointment follows yesterday's parting of ways with Itzhak Shum, the Israeli trainer who led the Athens club to a Greek league and cup double last season. Scasny, 47, is promoted from the scouting role he has occupied at Panathinaikos since November 2003, when he stood down as OFI Crete FC coach. The details of his contract remain undisclosed. Prior to joining OFI in May 2002, Scasny had been in charge of AC Sparta Praha (1998-99) and FK Viktoria Zizkov (1998-2002). |

Panathinaikos could be boosted by the return of Emmanuel Olisadebe for next week's UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal. The Polish striker has been missing for several months with a serious knee injury. Olisadebe could return to league action against Aigaleo this weekend and if he comes through that unscathed he could play against The Gunners next Wednesday. |

Panathinaikos FC were held to a goalless draw on Saturday, spoiling the last remaining 100 per cent record in the Alpha Ethniki and allowing AEK Athens to join them at the top of the table. In their first game since the appointment of Zdenek Scasny last week, Panathinaikos' run of three successive victories came to an end with a 0-0 draw against Aigaleo. Both sides could have stolen the win in the closing stages of the game with Aigaleo's Daniel Eduseh and Panathinaikos' Emmanuel Olisadebe both hitting the crossbar in a frenetic final 15 minutes, but in the end they had to settle for a share of the spoils. |

Panathinaikos will look back with some encouragement from the Gunners' last visit to Athens when a 24th-minute goal from Georgios Karagounis proved the difference in the first group stage of the 2001/02 Champions League campaign. Although Arsenal would gain revenge in the return match at Highbury three weeks later when two goals from Thierry Henry (23 and 52 minutes) sandwiched Emmanuel Olisadebe's 50th-minute goal for Panathinaikos, the Greek side emerged from the six-game group stage in first place, with the Gunners also qualifying as runners-up. Arsenal exited the competition at the second group stage, but Panathinaikos went one step further, losing 3-2 on aggregate to FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals. |

Olisadebe leads PAO in 2-2 draw against Arsenal |
The English champions, who were made to fight hard by the determined hosts, took the lead after 18 minutes with Fredrik Ljungberg before Argentinian midfield player Ezequiel González equalised with a spectacular lob just after the hour. Thierry Henry put Arsenal back in the driving seat again on 74 minutes before Olisadebe headed in an Angelos Basinas corner to leave both these sides just behind new leaders PSV Eindhoven. |
