A versatile and spirited midfielder who is not afraid to help out in defence when called upon, Ioannis Goumas has become one of the central figures in the Panathanaikos FC side in recent years and has earned the captain’s arm-band. A product of the youth system at the OAKA Spiros Louis stadium, Goumas has dedicated his entire career to Panathanaikos and his determined style of play has seen him become a regular in the Greek national side since making his debut in a 2-1 win over Finland in Larnaca, Cyprus in February 1999. While he failed to score in his 21 Hellenic National League in 2000/01, he managed two goals in his eleven UEFA Champions League games. Those eleven appearances added to the five that he made in the 1998/99 campaign and the two from the 1995/96 competition. |
