Ajax to celebrate 100th Anniversary
with Panathinaikos

On December 19th Panathinaikos will be visiting Amsterdam for a series
of exhibition matches with the famous Dutch club Ajax who will be
celebrating their 100th anniversary. In a special moment on this day,
the members of the 1971 European Championship will have a little
exhibition as well, sort of an "old timers game". It will be an excellent
chance for the new generation of Panathinaikos fans to see the heroes
of the past. The "old timers" will play 30 minute games, with two 15
minute halves, while the current teams will play each other after the
match. It will be interesting to watch as former Greek league star Nikos
Machlas, who as rumor has it, is eyeing a return to the Greek league with
one of the 3 major clubs. The two days in Amsterdam will be interesting
to watch, as heroes of old and present show their stuff  once again.

Panathinaikos exact revenge

Panathinikos' veterans exacted a suitable revenge for their 1971 European Cup Final defeat when they beat Ajax 1-0 in a charity game.

The game at the Ajax Jubileum in Amsterdam on Wednesday evening was a repeat of the original Wembley showpiece of June 2nd, 1971. The only ever European Cup Final to feature a Greek team ended in defeat for the Athens club, who lost 2-0 on that occasion.

However last night, with many more kilos and grey hairs but the same spirit and love of the game, they managed to beat their Dutch opponents at the Amsterdam Arena and gain sweet revenge.

Mimis Domazos was the lone goal scorer in the secomnd half of the 20 minute match which acted as a prelude to a clash between te current Ajax and Panathinaikos teams, with Wamberto and Winter scoring the goals in a 2-0 win.

Greek wrangle over Olisadebe fee

Nigerian-born Poland forward Emmanuel Olisadebe is reported to have passed
a medical at Panathinaikos but cannot complete his move until Polonia
Warsaw lower their £4 million asking-price.

Olisadebe arrived in Athens on Wednesday in the hope of thrashing out a deal
with the side that knocked Polonia Warsaw out of the Champions' League
qualifiers back in August.

The pacy Olisadebe impressed PAO's coaching staff with his power and touch
and the Athens team have made a move for him to strengthen their front line.

The 21-year-old underwent a medical at the club's Paiania training-ground on
Thursday, but Panathinaikos, flush after qualifying for the Champions' League
second phase, value the player at £1.5 million.

Earlier this season, they bid £1.5 million for Legia Warsaw star Martin Mieciel.
The Polish club demanded £2.5 million and that deal fell through. If Polonia
fail to drop their price, the same could happen with the Olisadebe move.

The Greek transfer window closes at the end of next week.

more and more. On the other hand, Paniliakos missed the chance to level the game in the 56th when
Mandra failed to find the target from the penalty spot.

Olisadebe joins Panathinaikos
on long-term loan

Friday 26th January 2001

Panathinaikos have finally agreed a compromise deal with Polonia
Warsaw that sees Nigerian-born Poland striker Emmanuel Olisadebe join
the Greek club on an 18-month loan.

PAO will pay £900,000 up front, with the option of signing him on a
permanent basis for a further £800,000 when the loan expires.

The pacey and powerful Olisadebe made a name for himself last year
with some impressive international performances as he breathed new life
into the flagging Polish strikeforce.

His goals helped Polonia win the championship last season and he has also attracted the attention of Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger.

It had been reported earlier in the month that the 23-year-old was on the verge of signing a permanent deal with PAO after passing a medical in Athens, but the two clubs could not agree on the fee.

Olisadebe also told onefootball.com that he would rather quit football than go back to play in his adopted country.
