The smallest of the 5 Grosse Pointe areas measuring a mere 1.72 square miles "3 miles long and a half mile in depth." Grosse Pointe Shores is also considered to be the most exclusive of the Grosse Pointe villages featuring such notable landmarks as the home of Edsel and Eleanor Ford as well as the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. The community of Grosse Pointe Shores was created in 1848 but wasn't incorporated untill 1911. This marked the beggining of Grosse Pointe Shores as a desireable location for Michigans affluent and powerful politicians, businessmen and underworld figures alike. Grosse Pointe Shores is zoned strickly for single family dwellings and boasts of only two commercial properties "the aforementioned Ford Home and the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club." As of 1990 the average income of this community was listed at $58,389 dollars with 54% of it's residents finishing 4 years or more of college.
