"The best index to a persons character is (a) How he treats people who can't do him any good, (b) how he treats people who can't fight back."
By Abigail Van Buren
Many people define their character and measure their power at the expense of someone’s suffering. A person’s character can be determined by analyzing that person's treatment toward others. Despotic individuals are usually those that dispose of people that can't do them any good. Similarly, despotic individuals take a step further, and feed themselves from those that can not fight back.
In our nation, within the government’s policies, we see barbarities happen all the time. They have happened before, and will continue to happen. Recently, border patrol officials abuse their power by inflicting their racism or hate upon a target minority. In grater scales, huge corporations and small business owners, also oppress their weaker and vulnerable employees.
It is a fact that the nucleus of society is the family. However, it is sad to acknowledge that most of the abusing and mistreatment take place in many homes. Fathers beat their wives, wives beat their children and older brothers or sisters wage their anger upon younger and defenseless siblings.
In this world for and of humans, a balance exists between good and evil. We have honest and morally responsible men, and we have deceitful men. Analyzing a person’s treatment toward others can determine a person’s character.
