The Real Problem in America

Reflective Writing 4

Marian Wright Edelman's quotation "We do not have a money problem in America, we have a values, and priorities problem", this means we have the money to do what we want, we do not put the things that are most important first.
In todays society children will buy clothes for hundreds of dollars, and sneakers for a lot more, but when it comes to paying for an important exam that may cost forty dollars they do not have the money for it. When they add up all the money they spend on clothes and snreakers they could have thousands of dollars that they could have spent on an education. The same people buy cell phones, like Nextels, and sidekicks for five hundred dollars. When the newer model of the gadget comes out in two weeks, they have to buy that and keep updating it every two weeks.
Marian Wright Edelman's quotation "We do not have a money problem in America, we have a values and priorities problem" means money is something that we have, but we do not know how to spend it. Children spend thousands on material items that they will get tired of in a week, or will wear away in time, but cannot use that money on their education that will always be with them. We put money and what money can buy before the more important things in life. 1
