Autobiography: Who Am I
Strive for Excellence in All Circumstances". My name is Roshanna Garraway, and this has always been my motto of motivation. Born September 23rd, I am a native of Guyana presently residing in New York, and I attend Jamaica High School.
I grew up in quite a stringent and pious menage, which has contributed greatly to my personality and identity as an individual. As a Christian, I put my entire trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is my buttress and strong tower at all times and that's why I adhere to the Word that declares "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowlegde him and He shall direct your path" Proverbs 3:5,6. At an early age I learned the importance of protocol and following certain precepts. I live in an extended family, which I love and care for dearly because everyone has a sense and comprehension of protocol, even when things don't appear to be working out, we still encourage each other.
At a rather young age, I developed the pastime of reading and composing different genres of literature, and have maintained this avocation, even in my adolescense. I love reading because it takes you to another place and time, allowing you to perceive the characters as though they were actual people, struggling to reach a goal and possibly defying every man-made law to acquire their objective. And indeed they are actual people- the very embodiment of ourselves, and through them we're able to empathize and sympathize with others and even ourselves. Besides reading, I also enjoy singing and playing tennis. I love to volunteer, whenever necessary, whether in my community, at home or at school.
I enjoy learning and take advantage of every opportunity to edify myself. Learning, in my opinion, is a process that doesn't discontinue, but gradually increases with age and maturity. English, Spanish, and Economics are amongst my favorite subjects. Like every good student, I strive for excellence in everything I endeavor, which makes me a bit competitive. As mentioned before, my motto has always been "Strive for Excellence in All Circumstances". As a child, my grandmother embedded this motto into me, and even now I remember and try to practice it daily.
My vocational aspiration is to be a philologist and author or a financial analyst. Due to my avidity towards these areas of profession, I intend to explore each one of them. I'm also interested in drama, which I'll probably pursue as an extracurricular activity. My goals include being successful, and being a leader in whatever I do.
The most important lesson that I've learnt, being a teenager and senior in high school is that it is imperative to have clear goals and write them down. This allows you to have a vision and pursuit throughout life. Also I learnt and is still in the process of learning a very important lesson that is coupled with excellence: Never procrastinate, even if you think you have the world of time on your shoulders. Sententiousness has never been my means of expressing my beliefs and values, but for those interested, my advice to you is "Whether young or old, rich or poor, follow your dream to the end, even if your dream is a budding flower or that which is a long deffered hope."
