Abortion can be defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. Itis a highly controversial issue that has been debated for years. Pro-Choice advocates will overlook the implication that abortion is murder . However those who promote Pro-Life realize that abortion, under any circumstances is wrong, and having the child is the right decision.
Pro- Choice suporters alwats argue that women should have the right to decide what to do with their bodies. If does not want to have a baby or is unprepared, she should have the freedom to eliminate the "problem". They feel politicians should not have the right to control a woman's body. When confonted with the idea of murder, Pro-Choice advocates reason that the embryo is not yet a life. However, research shows that by two months, the embryo, which is now the fetus, has developed eyes, fingers, toes, feet, ears and a neck. Often times, abortion is carried out even after the third month of pregnancy.
Yet anoter excuse for abortion is the unfortunate circumstances women find themselves in. Teenagers frequently become pregnant due to neglect and carelessness. However, they feel they are mature enogh, and choose to have sex. Therefore, they should be responsible enough to pay the consequences. Even under the unfortunate circumstances of rape, a woman has options. Instead of taking all the pent-up anger, shame and turmoil on an innocent child, she can give the baby up for adoption. In short, despite the despair of certain situations, there is always another option, aside from siezing a child's right to live.
Along with a resolution for the "problem", abortion also contains several emotional side effects. Often times, women are bombarded with feelings of guilt, shame and the ultimate sadness that accompanies the irreplacable loss of a child. These emotions may develop into chronic depression, and inhibit a woman from having a healthy life. Her guilt and shame may cause her to be unable to respond to children, possibly eliminating any desire to have children in the future. In closing, abortion is yet another procedure that damages both the mental and emotional health of a woman's life.
African American writer Joaquim Assis once said,"There is only one misfortune- not to be born." Every individual deserves the freedom to live. Niether neglect or misfortune should justify the killing of an unborn child, for even the unborn have a destiny that awaits them.
