MalcolmX



Malcolm X, originally Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska on the 19th of May, 1925. He took the letter X as his last name in honor for his unknown African ancestors. He attended west junior high. He was however a troubled youth and eventually dropped out of school. He was also arrested in 1946 where he became involved with the nation of Islam for the first time. He became very active in this organization and eventually became the spokesman. He became a prominent minister preached the idea of blacks living separately. After awhile Malcolm X began to feel as if the Nation wasn’t doing enough. He left and soon traveled to Mecca, the holy land for Muslims. While there he gained the title of El-Hajj Malik El Shabazz and there, at Mecca he also realized that there were white Muslims that believed in the equality of all races. With these new views he created his own organization the Muslim Mosque Inc on February 14th 1965. In his fight for civil Rights he achieved the goal of bringing the United States to the World Court for human rights violations against people of African American descendant.

He believed in aggressive non violent protest just as many other Civil Activists at the time. Black Muslims from the Nation of Islam began to look at him as a traitor because of his criticism of Elijah Muhammad. On February 21st. 1965, Malcolm was shot while giving a speech in New York City. Three members of the Nation of Islam were convicted.
