Love is not an everyday word used to describe objects but rather an emotional normally used when an individual wants to express how much he or she cares and respects a particular person. Expressions of love can be seen at holidays such as St Valentine’s and Christmas. During St Valentine’s couples usually exchange gifts that show how much they care and respects each other. Whether these gifts are heart shaped candies, jewelry or even a simple card filled with caring words, they all show this ideal of love.
At Christmas love between families is obvious. You receive gifts of the things that you normally wouldn’t get on a regular day or some of the things that u really wanted. They give you these things because they want to show you that they care for you, and you also give in return so that they know that you love them too.
There are also many family get-togethers at Christmas, where everyone gathers to celebrate with the people they most love. I remember my last Christmas when my mom decided to have a carol singing night. All my aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces came that night.
Carol signing is no major event; the important thing about that night was that they came out because they respected my mom and each other. They could have stayed home or gone somewhere else but they didn’t. Just as importantly they care about each other. This was yet another opportunity to see how members of the family were doing, to see if everything was “ok” in their lives. They did this because they cared about each other and in doing these things showed me the right use of love.
There are many people who throw around the word love as if it had no significant meaning. Some people say “I love ice cream” or/ and “I love the new boots from Steve Madden.” However, how can you care for and respect ice – cream or boots. It would be more appropriate to say “I like “instead of “I love” these materialistic things. Using the word love to describe an object is unsuitable for such a significant word. People should learn to use alternate adjectives to express how they feel towards material things.
The word love should be used for sentimental purposes. To show caring and respect to another being. Love, a word which should be used more commonly among family and couples.
