Charles drew was born in Washington D.C. on July 3,1904. Growing up, Charles Drew was a very well achieved man.Dr. Drew has been a letter man in track, a Mossman trophy winner in general scholarship and a Spingarn Medalist for his contributions to human welfare. Charles Drew spent his entire life in pursuit of excellence.At Amherst University, as an undergraduate, he recieved the Mossman trophy for having brought the most honor to the school in a four year period. Also at McGill University in Canada, he won first prize physiological anatomy. He graduated from this school in 1933.
From 1938 to 1940,Charles Drew started his research in Columbia University on blood plasma.He became an authority on the subject and was asked by the British to set up a program for them.By 1941 Dr.Drew became a medical director of the Red Cross which collected plasma for the U.S armed forces.He then later left the Red Cross and became a professor of surgery at Howard University and chief surgeon at Freedman's Hospital.For his explicit work Charles Drew was awarded the NAACP's Spingarn Medal in 1944. Unfortunately this all had to come to an end for this man. He died on April 1, 1950 in an car accident in North Carolina. He had fell asleep behind the wheel.Rumor has it that he was denied treatment ata local hospital because he was black. He then died three hours after the accident.
