Should Gay Men and Women Be Allowed to Marry?
Do gay men and women have the constitutional and social right to be able to marry? The issue of whether same –sex couples should have the right has been debated over for the last 30 years. For many who view marriage as a heterosexual institution, which is mainly for the reason of procreation of children, same-sex marriage is highly irrelevant. The debate over same sex marriage brings along religious and legal dilemmas. Same sex marriage is religiously and social unorthodox.
The concept of marriage is basically the union of different genders, which in return will produce children, strength, intimacy, and value to society. Thus the definition of marriage is not just a denotative but one it also is fundamental to the concept and nature of marriage itself. In the biblical terms marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman, not same sex.The Christian tradition with values and morals will not recognize or condone this type of ungodly behavior. Same sex marriage is religiously unconventional. With these texts shown, all of which equally condemn homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 states the principle:
"You [masculine] shall not lie-with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” The second (Lev. 20:13) adds the penalty: “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them.”
The third text in the bible Romans 1:26-27, which, like Leviticus 18 and 20, unequivocally denounces homosexual behavior:
“For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.”
While not denying the fact that gay men and women have the right to have loving relationships without harming society, but the fact that the essential meaning of marriage in tradition anywhere is heterosexual. The heterosexual means of marriage is what makes marriage a different union and that’s what makes it so valuable to many individuals and society.
Homosexuals have problems with the government regarding the right to marry and so society does also. Countless numbers of individuals will find the amendment to be a problem. Many believe that man and woman are to marry and that is the way it will be for as long as people walk his earth. Many Americans remain highly critical of homosexuals and religious belief is a major factor in these attitudes. As a result many of these homosexuals would be frightened to be open about their sexuality. If they are willing to be gay and be fully open about it why let them have their own privacy rights and public approval. It all comes down to whether homosexuality is socially eccentric. Homosexual behavior is a chosen one, and not placed upon the public.
Homosexuals have the need to feel wanted in this society, but what they don’t understand is that they will never be looked upon in an equal manner. They won’t have the same equal civil rights as other heterosexual beings. Marriage is a defined relationship between man and woman and their potential offspring, and the legal rights that exist are based on the particular nature of man and woman. These marriages provide a greater benefit to society. Man and woman are part of the ability to reproduce- gay and lesbian couples cannot reproduce which in return with degenerate the population. This procreation can only take place this way and this way only. It is scientifically impossible for two men or two women to reproduce in the original manner or method.
Marriage is a heterosexual union and has no relevance to gay or lesbian couples. Marriage can be seen the specific heterosexual identity or group.
