THE COLOR OF WATER
The Color of Water is a touching story of a white mother and her black son. The mother has many other children but this book is their story. It broke my heart to read about all the disturbing things that happened to them. I could never imagine my parents disowning because I was with a black man like Ruth was in the book. Especially a father that would molest his own child. I was upset and disappointed at the same time. Upset because that is your own flesh and blood that was being denied and disappointed because of the racism that took place. I don't know personally how it is to be a bi-racial but I can just imagine the confusion James must have gone through in trying to understand why he and his mother Ruth had two different colored skin. I really admire Ruth for her srtong will. She raised 12 kids on her own even with having a disability. Now that is someone to look up to and be proud to call "mom."
