Since the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Mayo has explained to us her goals for her classes this year. She changed the class from Women's Literature to Social Justice. At first I was kind of upset that we weren't going to learn about Women on the book scene, but the whole social justice thing grew on me. We divided up into groups and formed social justice action groups. My group set up a webpage for the fight against sexual equaility. I loved it. It was interesting to go online to search for information on battered women and read what people had to say about the situation.
Before the social action groups, We set up our own individual webpages. The webpages were set up to reflect our views and opinions on different pieces given to us by Mrs. Mayo. My webpage is based on different stories, articles from newspapers, and whatever else of my choice. The first piece we read was Always Running by Luis Rodriguez. That particular book was one of the best pieces that I ever read before. It moved me. It was as if the words and feelings of this young man were leaping off the page at you, while you read it. This book dealt with temptations of the younger, lower-class, minority groups. Luis Rodriguez couldn't have wrote a better book to describe what we as minorities face as we grow older. I couldn't said it any better than he did.
The second piece wasn't better than the first but was just as moving.
