The Color Of Water is not really a Novel It si a memoir. This memoir is basically about a balck man tribute towards his white mother.Ruth McBride Jordan is a self-declared "light-skinned" jewish woman who had a lot of love for her twelve black children. James McBride, journalist, musician and son. According to the memoir James McBride did a research on his mother. James McBride is the son of a black minister and a woman who dont want to admit she is white. As a young man, McBride saw his mother as a source of embarrassment, worry, and confusion--and reached the age of thirty before he began to discover the truth about her early life and long-buried pain.In The Color of Water, McBride retraces his mother's footsteps and, through her spirited voice, bring about her remarkable story. At the age of Seventeen Ruth married a black minister and the prolong to have twelve kids together."God is the color of water," Ruth McBride taught her children, firmly convinced them that life's blessings and life'svalues that exceed raceism.She was Twice a widowed, overwhelmed racism, Ruth's determination, drive and discipline, saw her twelve children through college--and most through graduate school. At the age 65, she received a degree in social work from Temple University. Knowing all of this, McBride decided to write the memoir "The Color Of Water". In his word he share his own expierences of racism, drugs and violence and also his sucess though his life. McBride was so upset at the facts he found out in his research.
