As I read this book, I remember some of the other book that is also about segregation. As we can see the title of the books can give us a good hint about what is the conflict in this book.
Maya Angelou's childhood was very rough. It's not just because of the segregated area she was living in, it is also because her family was very religious and strictly had to abide by the teachings of God. On the other hand, whenever they make a mistake they have to be punished. In spite of this, Maya Angelou wasn't really aware about everything, because of the rule in her family. One example, of her unawareness is when she got raped by Mr. Freedman. All she knew was, she was scared of telling to her family what happened to her. She scared of being discriminated with her own family. In my opinion, her family didn't shaped her well enough to be more aware to everything surrounds her.

One incidents in my childhood that I would never forget is when I supposed to die. Let me start in the part that I asked my mom to bring me home to visit my family. That was the last chance I have to see them. I can say my family is poor in that time, all member of the family have different kind of illness. Anyway, when me and my mom got home my little sister was in the living room playing at the same time there was a customer in our "small store". My mom run to the store, suddenly I saw my sister runing to hug me. Then, when my mom saw us she seems very upset. I think its because no one was supposed to hug and kiss me. Few weeks later, my sister become so very ill while I was recovering at the same time. A months past then she died, and the doctor was so shock cause I survived.
I keep blaming my self what had happened to my sister. Everytime I'm alone I cried and asking myself "Why did I didn't die?", "Why does she have to be the one?". My parents keep telling me that its not my fault and I shouldn't blame myself about it.
That is why all I want now is to do the best as I can to make my parents happy and make myself worthy.
