The Color Of Water

"The Color Of Water,"by James McBride."
"There are two characters in this book,James McBride and Ruthie McBride also known as Racheal. She came from aJewish tradional home.Ruthie's bestfriend name was Frances.Frances was the only person who really understood her. It was a great novel.James is a black character,he's brown skinned. His mother is light skinned. James grew up in the United States, and also talked about the hardship he faced growing up.
Ruthie was harassed by her husband. She also didn't want her children to suffer the pain that she experienced as a child. This book switches from Ruthie telling the story to James telling the story about his life. They both have similarities.Ruth and James both ran from their problems. One day James had asked his mother if God was black or white.James had an older brother. She told him that god is a spirit.I think James never understood why his mother worshipped the same god as he does.He believed that she was different. Ruthie thinks that "God is a Color of Water,"because water really don't have a specific color and god does'nt have a color either. She has twelve children.
James learnt a lot of things from his mother. She told him that he should never give up in life.
Education was really important in his mother's life. She wanted her children to create their own path in life.
Ruthie thinks that religion was important. Her husband introduced her to christinity.
She's a very secretive woman. She thinks that you shouldn't tell others about yourself.Church was thw only place where Ruthie showed her emotions. For the first she actually revealed these things about herself. And that was a good thing, because James learnt a lot from her.He also answer some of his questions."
