When I Was Puerto Rican
by:Esmeralda Santiago
This book uses a great deal of imagery. When she describes the guava, you get the feel of going to the fruit stand and picking out a ripe guava. The senses used brings you into the book to share the feelings of the author. To move from one country to another may seem like lots of fun until you get there. There are new ways to buy clothes, go food shopping and socialize. When Esmeralda writes about her experience, moving from Puerto Rico to New York she captures us and takes with her on her journey.
