Antigone and Creon

Antigone and Creon

Many character in literature, although having differing ideas, are very similar in personality. They do things and act in ways that are very similar yet they believe in different concepts. 2 such characters are Antigone and Creon from the play Antigone written by Sophocles.

Antigone was a girl who was determined and did't let anyone get in her way. An example of this was when Antigone along with everyone else of the city was told by king Creon to leave Polyniece's body out for the dogs and the birds. Because it was her brother she didn't listen. She covered up his body in an attempt to give him a proper burial. She knew the consequences of her actions but according to the Gods, who had a higher power than Creon, family came first. When the king found out about her actions he sentenced her to death and when she died, she died knowing that she did the right thing.

Creon was the king of Thebes who was also determined and didn't let anyone get in his way. An example of this is also when Antigone covers up her brother's body. Even though Antigone has gone against his word, he did something that wasn't fair and he knew it. He just wanted everyone to follow his rules and show that he wasn't going to cut any slack for anyone not even a family member.

These 2 characters from the play Antigone show how people can be similar in personality but believe in different concepts. Both of the 2 characters were wrong for their actions but right in their own eyes.
