I'm writting to the editor to share my views on the article that was published in your magazine written by a young man who had the courage to make a change in his life, in order to prove his beliefs on the injustice of the school system today.
Even though its hard to believe ,schools that are located so close together can be very different. I say this because I've learned from experience since, for the most part of my life I attended a private school located in Queens Village. In school I was taught in very elaborate classroom with no more than twenty students. We knew each other very well including the teachers. The education we received was no less than the best. When the time came for me to go to High School, I had the choice between private school aswell as public school. Even though I knew what private school could provide me with, education wise, I still wanted to witness first hand the daily life of public school students. So I chose to attend Jamaica High School
which was about twenty minutes away from my elementary/junior high school. When I entered Jamaica it was like a new world for me. My classes had around twenty-five to thirty students per class. As the years went by and I grew older I was able to see more clearly the very sad difference between my old school and my present which were some teachers hated school more than the students. Even though my school had its down it also had its ups. Now that I'm a senior, I'm happy to be able to look back and say to myself that my school taught me allot both in education and in overall life, I see that I made a good choice.
I believe that the public schools today are the way they are because the parents don't take part in their children's academic life. If the parents would attend more PTA meeting and write to the school chancellor about the condition of the schools, they would soon see a change. Even though it's to late for my generation, it's just in time for those who are soon to come who might not have a choice between public or private schools as I did.
