Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde Critical Lens Essay

An author once said "If you take risks, you may fail. But if you do no take risks, you will surely fail. The greatest risk of all is to do nothing." This simply means that from taking chances you may learn. From failure comes achievement and from learning comes wisdom. The worst choice is to do nothing. The above statement is based true based on the novel The Anthem written by Ayn Rand and the novel Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde written by Robert Louis Stevenson.
The Anthem was about a young man named Equality 7-2521 who lived in the dark ages of the future. In the loveless world in which he lived , Equality was not thought of as a single man with his own identity, but as a part of a mindless community. In a time where it was forbidden to want knowledge, he had the courage to seek and find what he wanted most, knowledge. He lost his place in his community but gained the love of the woman of his choice, independence, and values which he loved much more. Equality 7-2521 was forced to start his life over in a new place, which was very hard for him since he was used to a group of people's help. But in order to gain independence he had to sacrifice many things that he was used to.
In Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Mr Utterson's love for his beloved friend Dr. Jekyll encouraged him to risk his life and those around him in order to find the truth about Dr. Jekyll which desperatly wanted.Dr, Jekyll was the kindest, most civil, and most respected man and he wanted to live as two different men. Mr.Hyde was a foul and twisted man who enjoyed bringing pain to others. In one incident Mr Hyde trampled a young girl and had no remorse. Mr. Utterson lost two of his dearest friends during his investigation of Mr. Hyde. Mr Utterson risked the chance that he himself could be killed. After Mr. Hyde killed a innocent man Mr. Utterson aided the police in finding wjere Mr.Hyde was staying. At that time Mr Hyde could have murdered Mr Utterson for helping the police. During the investigation Mr.Utterson lost friends but gained what he desired most, the truth.
The novel Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde written by Robert Louis Stevenson and the novel The Anthem written by Ayn Rand both show that by taking chances and making mistakes one can learn and will gain wisdom. Wisdom leads to knowledge which can be passed down to others who could learn from your mistakes.
