It Just Isn't Fair
It Just Isn't Fair
This is a short story based on the Fight for Sexual Equality.
"Mom is that you" a young voice carried toward the front door as it closed. There was sudden pause before there was an answer."Yes, sweettie mommy's home" a tired voice answered. "Mom come and let me show you what I did in school today" the child asked with excitement. "Let mommy get comfortable first" the mother replied as she dragged her tired body up the steps. As she laid motionless on her bed she thought about what she had just went through for the thousandths time. She had just come from a interview at a well known law firm which she had thought would have ended differently. She thought she would have been congrajulated and welcomed to the team, but instad she was told she was not the right person for the job and that was it. She reached over for the phone she needed to have a girl to girl talk with her best bud, Lisa. "Hey girl" a friendly voice said through the phone.
"How did you know it was me"
"Caller ID, what's up"
"I didn't get the job,again"
"What!!, why not?"
"They said I wasn't right for the job"
"That was it , did they say any thing else".
"Not a word"
" That's strange they just hired a friend of mines son who had less experience then you"
"Are you sure"
"Hell yeah, she bragged about him for a week straight, he only had one job at a law firm before this, and he was only a secretary"
"Oh well"
" what do you mean oh well?,did you say that they said you were not right for the job"
"yeah so"
"Was the person who interviewed you a man or a woman?"
"Man, what are you getting at?
" Did he even look a little interested a what you had to say?"
"Now that you mentioned it, he really didn't but I still don't see waht that has to do with me not getting the job"
"Every thing sweetie, you didn't get the job because your a woman"
" I don't belive that "
" well believe it,it only make since that a man interviewed you who did care about what had to offer his firm, and a man who had less experience then you got the job with no trouble.
"Your right"
" What ar you goung to do?
" Tomorrow, I'm going back to the firm, and see if there are any women working there, if not I'm going to a lawyer and press charges on them for discrimination at the work place"
" You go girl, I got to go call me tomorrow and tell me what happens.
"Thanks girl, talk to you later"
