Salsa's Story |
Salsa is part australian cattledog, and part beagle. We had made a trip to Petsmart and saw two of the cutest beagles. Our family was in the process of building a house and not in the position to adopt a dog. After we had moved into our new house, we decided to look for a puppy. We pulled up a site on the internet called, Petfinder and found a dog on the PALS site in Missouri. We emailed the rescue group and found out that they were going to be at Petsmart in our area the following Saturday. We went to meet her and fell in love with her sweet face. We brought her home that weekend and she was about 5 or 6 months old. The sad thing about adopting a dog is that in many cases you don't know much about their early history including their birthday. We did have some problems with Salsa in the beginning. She has separation anxiety and she had some problems with nipping. We decided to take her to basic obedience to help with her some of these issues. She learned the basic commands pretty easily but we have to work with her constantly or she falls back into some of her old dominance habits. We also crate trained her to help with separation anxiety while we were working. At first we thought this was cruel but the more that I read, this seemed like the right answer for our dog. Her favorite toy's are her tennis ball and her kong. She loves to go to the drive thru at the bank with me because they always give her a milkbone and she loves to go for long walks after supper. We have had Salsa since Febuary of 2000. She is getting older now and is slowing down some but she still loves her family. We also got a kitten so she has had that to adjust to and has done alot better than I think she would have with him. |
