The Lair of The Golden Dragon Part II |
Dirala head thrived. Could she do it? Could a beast made of golden scales and breath of brimstone be defeated by this lanky, tall, out cast? Dirala rode past a town, whose roofs and taverns lie scorched and burnt. A widow stood on the steps shrieking, " Gone! Gone!!" Dirala swallowed hard. She knew what must have happened. Many folk tried to defeat the Golden Dragon, but none had survived. As the hour passed, Dirala had reached, " The Grave Yard." The Grave Yard was were all the men who had ever tried to defeat a dragon, and lost, had their carcases to be laid to rest, or, what was left of them. Helmets and swords lied tossed and burnt, and statues lied above unmarked graves. A old man stood, who apperently moorned for the dead, called to her, " Shall I be seeing your remains soon?" Dirala calmly repleid, " If I am not worthy, my spirit will." Finally, after a five hour trip, she had reached, The Mark. Where all the knights who had been slained had entered before defeat. Dirlal backed from the entrance, " No," she thought, " to obvious" Dirala searched for another way in on foot. Rocks, weeds, and a filthy dirt path that ended short was all. " Arg!" she mummbled, " there's always one way in, but never two!" But before Dirala's words had left her lips, she found her self falling into darkness. Dirala shook. A cloud of dirt and a shower of rocks followed her. She had found another way into the cave, but the wrong one. She gently brushed the dirt and dust from her eyes to reveal the tail of a enormous red dragon. " What?" the words escaped her mouth, and echoed of the caves dark musky walls. " Excuse me?!" The dragon bellowed. "Sorry" Dirala replied, " but I though you were suppose to be gold." The dragon looked at her, barely an inch from her face. Rage in it's eyes. Then, It burst out laughing. '"What is so funny!?" Dirala asked. The dragon stopped and wiped his eyes, he had laughed so hard he was crying. " Silly girl!" he cried. " I am the golden dragon!" " What!?" Dirala cried. " But your not golden! All thstories, and, and, pictures, they said you were gold!""" "Ahh, but you see, the knights never lived to tell if I was gold now have they? And besides, the closest thing to gold is my hatchlings!" The red dragon gave a sharp little blow, that made Dirala's head hurt. Then, through the hole in which she fell from, six baby dragons flew in, all golden. " All those pesky knights! Coming to, 'slay the golden dragon' and all they really do is disturbe my rest! But, I need at least half to show up, for food of course. But, if you go tell them i'm not gold, none will come, and my babys will starve. So, I'll just have to kill you to make sure you don't blurt it out to them." The red dragon took a deep breath, and aimed a stream of crackling fire directly at Dirala. " Stop!!"
