The Softer Side of the Tolkien Purist Community
You’re obviously not alone. The Lord of the Rings section at fanfiction.net is edging up towards 20,000 stories. The release of the movies created a huge interest in Tolkien’s works - introducing thousands of people to the world of Middle-earth.
This can be considered both a good thing and a bad thing.
If you’ve been around FF.net for more than a week or so, you’ve probably heard about the canon, and `canon purists’. You may have received a review from one of us. You may be one of us. You may have heard various things, both complimentary and uncomplimentary.
There are some purists who can be harsh in their reviews of fanfiction. I’m probably one of them, although I mean well. And it has come to my attention that many people feel that the purists are unnecessarily harsh, and not particularly helpful.
This site is aimed at changing that. I hope you find some things of use here; welcome to the world of the purists. We’re not that bad, honest…
