MY LEGACY LIVES
THROUGH YOU
Some men build great structures
that stand through the test of time.
Some have wonderful children
who grow to lead extraordinary lives.

There are those who accomplish amazing feats
so we look upon them as heroes in our minds.
I posses no building capabilities
and children I may never have.
I have no heroic feats to mention
as I reflect upon my present or my past.

What I do have is something so unique
It can only come from the heart.
Something so extremely wonderful
it bonds us whether we are together or apart.
What I have is a legacy
from the little simple things I do.
A legacy of great value
because this legacy lives through you.

If thoughts of me bring you gladness
and put a smile upon your face,
if I've brought to you laughter
that brightens your most dismal days,
if memories of me bring you contentment
and you think of me in the most special way,
then I don't need to worry about having a legacy
because my legacy lives through you.

When the day comes
that either of us are gone
both of us can rest assured
that our legacy will continue on.

It will continue just from
the special little things we say or do.
Your legacy will live through me
as my legacy lives through you.

This is dedicated to all those people who have touched my life
and whose life I may have touched in some special way.

This poem was inspired by my good friend Sonja from Pennsylvania.  Her sweetness and commitment to me through lots of hard times when she could have easily walked away is what I wanted to recognize.  Thank you Sonja for being there and for being honest.  I believe our wealth comes from the impression we leave with the people who come into our lives.  Money can be earned and it can also be lost but having a few friends that will always be there for you and think wonderful things of you is what makes you rich as a person.  You may know lots of people but the one person who can say they have only a few TRUE friends is the one who is far richer.  Sonja, when you called to see how I was on September 11th that was the one thing that sealed our friendship.  It meant so much to me since I was away from my home at that time.  Thank you for caring, for really caring.  Although this poem was inspired by Sonja it is also dedicated to EACH & EVERYONE who has come into my life and meant something so wonderful.  That includes my family and my friends.  I can't thank you enough for that so I thank you with this dedicated poem.
