"As much money and life as you could want! The two things most human beings would choose above all - the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them."
-- Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) "We must try not to sink beneath our anguish, Harry, but battle on." --Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) "It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew - and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents - that there was all the difference in the world." --J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." --Sirius Black (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) |
Chapter 8
A.) What is the one key idea of this chapter? Using miracles and parables to reveal the Kingdom of God. Parables reveal truths and provide us with a religious or moral lesson. The miracles of Jesus should bring about a sense of wondeer and awe. Jesus' words held the power to touch and change the minds and hearts of people. B.) Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it. -"Miracles, then, are out of the ordinary happenings that are contrary to the ordinary natural order of course of things." It is in miracles, that Jesus confronts the mystery of evil with the power of goodness in his actions. -"The Paschal mystery is the saving mystery of Jesus suffering, death, and resurrection." God is always with us, not just waiting for us at the end. Just like sheep always need a shepherd, we always need God. His suffering, death, and resurrection can be seen as a sacrifice for us. The mystery of the Paschal Mystery is Jesus' presence continuing in today's world. C.) One image that captures the chapter for you. ![]() D.) One significant question you have from this chapter. It can be intellectual or personal. Just write out the question. Try to answer it if you want. Who is Brother Roger of Taize? Brother Taize has begun a religious organization for many men in Taize, France. Their lifestyle includes prayer, staying close to the Lord, and accepting no gifts. They survive on the community. E.) What is your favorite parable or miracle story? Cite the passage (book, chapter, and verse) and explain why you chose this. JOHN 11:1-44 The Raising of Lazarus My favorite New Testament miracle is the Raising of Lazarus. There is something about this story in which I really like. Jesus comes to the scene of where Lazarus is laid after he is dead in Bethany. "The dead man came out, tied hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was wrapped in a cloth." Jesus performs the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead because of Martha's faith in the Lord. |
