"Seek beauty. Seek the truth, seek goodness. No matter what kind of faith- people get all tangled up in their faith. The one duty in life is to seek the truth. And what is true will be beautiful and what is beautiful will be good. And that's my goal in life."
-- Fr. Hagan

"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."
--Matthew 5: 44-45

"Why worry? Each of us is wearing an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back."
--Bill Murray (Ghostbusters)

"The success of love is in the loving- it is not in the result of loving. Of course it is natural in love to want the best for the other person, but whether it turns out that way or not does not determine the value of what we have done."
--Mother Teresa
Chapter 3

A.) What is the one key idea of this chapter?
Becoming more like Jesus through the Gospel of Matthew. Four major stories are greatly emphasized: the infancy narrative, the temptaton narrative, the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes, and finally the Judgement of Nations. In each of these, Matthew shows us how we are called to be more like Jesus.

B.) Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
-"To understand the comments made in Matthew, it is necessary to understand the context in which the Gospel was written."
This shows why the Gospel of Matthew is written as it is. Matthew writes his Gospel for the Jewish community. Instead of confronting the Jews, Jesus confronted the Pharisees and the scribes. Some view these comments as anti-semitic.
-"As Christians, we believe that every neighbor, every human, is made in the image and likeness of God"
All humans are bonded in relationship as children of God. No one is to have preferential treatment or own excess in the world because we are all God's children. Jesus tells usthat this is not charity, but it is called giving others what is their just due. It is justice.

C.) One image that captures the chapter for you.

D.) One significant question you have from this chapter. It can be intellectual or personal. Just write out the question. Try to answer it if you want.
What is the meaning of incarnation?
Incarnation means "God made flesh." In Jesus, God became one of us. Jesus is fully human, and fully divine. One of the documents of Vatican II states that by His incarnation, Jesus, the Son of God is united some waywith everyone (#22). This means that the mystery of the incarnation is an ongoing reality, not simply some event that happened 2000 years ago.

E.) Pick one organization working for social justice today. Describe the organization and what it does. Make sure to provide a link to its web site.
