For those of you who know me, I am obsessed with two things: Star Wars
and comic books. Comic books are a great hobby because every month, every
comic book fan knows that he/she will be getting a new issue. Story lines
in comics are filled with fantasy, mystery, suspense, comedy, horror, etc....
The list goes on and on about comics. Actually I could go on and on about
comics, but I won't. Instead I will just give a rating on the best story
lines out there. For those of you, who are picky about what I pick, feel
free to e-mail me and give me your opinions.
RATING SYSTEM
=Poor.......
=Excellent
AQUAMAN: He
is King of the seas and of Atlantis, but to me he lacks depth as a true
character. I haven't read many issues of him, but to me I like the old
Aguaman better than the new one with the hook. I give him:
ASCENSION: A
comic with mystical and magic involved has been done over and over. I have
to admit that the first couple of issues were exciting, but sorry guys
it is all down hill from there. In the future Aquaman is going to get married
because his sweaty has now found out that she truly loves him, so now there
is going to be trouble with having a wife hanging around the King of Atlantis.
I give it:
BANE: Filled
with venom and hatred- he is unstoppable, but take away the venom and you
have one smart villain. Even though he lacks the urge to dive into the
drugs, that makes him all the stronger. Even though he has no comic solo
book now, he will be appearing in upcoming NO MAN'S LAND comics- so pick
them up, they will sure to be an excellent depiction of him. Just now in
the recent NML comics, Bane is hammering at Two-Faces' forces and is blowing
buildings up. Her is also following orders from a mysterious outsider,
but I think Bane has never been controlled and actually controlling the
outsider. I give him:
(Click on picture for more information on Batman)
BATMAN: Oh
where do I start. This is THE MAN right here. Batman has never been better.
Ever since the earthquake struck Gotham, his comics have been going through
the roof. Perfect stories, perfect plot, perfect depiction of the Dark
Knight, and most of all everybody still fears him. If any of you haven't
read Cataclysm or No Man's Land- get in a car and drive to your nearest
comic book shop and buy them. Everything is wrapping up in NML, so now
all of the stories are leaving with huge cliffhangers and Batman is in
absolute control of Gotham, he has so many strings that he is pulling in
Gotham, it just isn't even funny. I give THE MAN:
CATWOMAN: Born
Selina Kyle- transformed into the marvelous CATWOMAN. See the problem here
is that she is also involved with NO Man's Land, which is such a tremendous
story line that I can't get enough of her. Her stories are well written
and I love how she can steal anything. The writer of this series has a
tremendous mind, very original, and very believable. She has now completed
the task that Batman gave her in NML, and now we will find out just how
much of an important role she has in this game of Batman's. I give her:
THE DARKNESS: At
the age of 18, he gained enough power to rival anyone, what a great birthday
present, but.... this comic has gone downhill sooo fast, it's just not
even funny. They keep on trying to entice everyone with variant covers,
but we the consumer just don't care. Plus, with all of the crossovers with
Witchblade...you have to buy Witchblade also to get the whole story. Not
worth the money. I give him:
DOOMSDAY: With
a tremendous history and past record of destruction, Doomsday rocked, but
he went down hill when the writers put Braniac inside his head. This ruined
the pure aggression Doomsday had because it was replaced with a lame character.
Plus, even though I love the character, he should have did at the end of
time. It was the best and only death he could succumb to. Now with him
in the JLA's teleporters, we know we'll be seeing him again. Overall,
I give him:
FATHOM: First
couple of issues were great, but after that it went all kaput. Now it's
just all "T" and "A." I wish the writers good luck on trying to make Fathom
a popular character again. I giver her:
FLASH: Born
with incredible speed, this comic super hero is surpassing most of the
DC universe with all of the great story lines. Mark Waid does an excellent
job depicting the Flash character. Plus, with all of the mystery of the
new flash, this all creates tons of suspense and anticipation for the reader
that can't wait for the unmasking. But now that I know who the new Flash
is, the plot went kind of down hill, hopefully they explain that Wally
West is the new Flash in a good way, or otherwise it might get dumb, but
we'll see. I've been hooked on Flash ever since I started. Good plot, good
character, and good writers equals a success. I give him:
GREEN LANTERN: Having
the most powerful weapon in the universe and it was given to a cartoon
artist. Even though he has great imagination, he is no Hal Jordan. Hal
Jordan was the best, but now the name of Green Lantern has gone down hill.
The only thing that can help this title is to have a drastic change in
Kyle's lifestyle or give someone else the ring. The whole thing about Kyle
restarting the GL Corps was a compete waste of time because nothing happened.
It was a waste of $10 all together, although I do see a little potential
in the future. The only good thing in the comic is the relationships he
has with the other females in the comic, it is filled with humor and tragedy.
I give him:
JUSTICE LEAGUE AMERICA: There
is just too much to say for this superb team. With heavy hitters like Superman,
Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Flash, and Aquaman,
there is no stopping this team. This comic has terrific writers and inkers,
which make this comic a tremendous buy. Now with WWIII starting and the
death of JLA'ers in the future, the JLA series is a must watch. The only
downside to this comic is that sometimes the story line is so complicated
you have to read the story 3-4 times before getting the whole picture.
I give this team:
NIGHTWING: Born
Dick Grayson, turned into Robin, then transformed into Nightwing, this
character is also THE MAN. If Batman wasn't around, I would want this guy
over my shoulder. With the terrific story line, also mixed with No Man's
Land, this comic takes the cake. He single handily took over Blackgate
Prison from someone of the ruthless characters know to Batman. Now there
is a love interest between Oracle and Nightwing that will add a little
twist to the series. There are no other contests. The comic is well written,
great inkers and artists, and a fantastic supporting cast, this comic is
sailing through the roof. I give him:
ORACLE: A.K.A.-
Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham's Commissioner Gordon, was originally
Batgirl, but got shot in the back by the Joker leaving her paralyzed. Now
confined to a wheelchair, she has the most access to any type of information
than anybody in the world. She has the high technology to perform her duties
well. With her in Gotham during No Man's Land, her character gets better
and better. Also, she has a love interest with Nightwing now and that adds
a little twist to her character and story line. You can see her now in
comics ranging from No Man's Land, JLA, and Birds of Prey- she is a must
read character. I give her:
ROBIN: Always
known as the sidekick of Batman, Robin is no longer in his shadows. Even
though they may go on runs together, his own comic book has created him
a life separate of Batman. The writers do a tremendous job with this character.
All of the other robins in the past weren't as well rounded as this Robin.
His comic is always a must read, and now he is also involved with No Man's
Land, this comic is going through the roof. The only problem for Robin
is that he has to give an explanation to his dad of why he has been missing
for a month now..uh oh Robin... I give him:
SPIDER-MAN: Born
with incredible powers of an arachnid spider, Peter Parker was forever
changed on that fateful day. With the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter knew
that with "Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility." Spider-Man was doing
really great until the Clone Saga hit the newsstands. Spider-Man plummeted
after that. Even now with the new series, Spider-Man does not even have
a chance of coming out on top any time soon. I give him:
